The trip consisted of a 430 mile route from Larrabees Point on the southern portion of Lake Champlain, VT to Bar Harbor, ME. The route crossed scenic Vermont and its ever rolling hills, progressed to the White Mountains of New Hampshire and then finished along the Maine coastline. We biked for 5.5 days, averaging about 80 miles per day. The two most challenging riding days were climbing Kancamagus Pass (2855') and a 102 mile day through Maine. With the exception of two rainy days, the weather was beautiful, the temperatures cool, and the landscapes quite scenic. We camped wherever we could find a place to crash, and our overnight stops ranged from National forest wilderness to a VFW baseball field to the back side of a mobile home park. I've realized that bicycle touring is a wonderful way to travel, and I'm looking forward to a longer, more comprehensive trip sometime in the near future... |
